A peek inside
Sprout is a tiny smiling bean. He sits on the classroom window ledge. He wants to grow big and green, but he needs some special things first.
What does a little plant need to grow? The children watch carefully. Sprout will show us each thing he needs, one by one.
First, Sprout needs soft soil. The children tuck him into a pot of dark earth. Roots like to hold on tight in soil.
Next, Sprout needs clean water to grow. A child pours a little drink for him. Water helps the seed wake up and grow strong.
Sprout also needs bright light from the sun. The sun shines through the classroom window. Light gives plants energy so they can grow tall.
Sprout needs fresh air all around him. He sits by the open window ledge. Plants use air to help them grow and stay healthy.
Sprout needs gentle warmth too. The warm classroom keeps him cosy on the ledge. Warmth helps his little green shoot push up.
