You can read and buy books on My Book Hub without creating an account. An account is only needed to write or publish a book.
My Book Hub (my-book-hub.com) is an independent digital books platform publishing original children's books, operated by Axiella Ltd (company number 16859263, registered in England and Wales, registered office 6 Mulberry Walk, Fleet, England, GU51 5EA), which is the data controller for the information described here. This policy explains what information we collect from visitors, readers and creators, and how we use it. References to "we", "us" or "the platform" mean My Book Hub.
Browsing and reading books does not require an account. We collect standard technical information (IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited) through analytics, described in section 3. If you use the "notify me" or share-by-email features, we collect the email address you provide only to send that specific message.
Creating a book requires an account. We collect the email address, name and password (stored hashed, never in plain text) you register with, and any book content, cover art or audio you upload through Creator Studio. Account holders must be 18 or over, or have verifiable parental consent, as set out in our Terms of Use.
If you create a reader account or become a member, we keep your first name, email address, password (stored hashed, never in plain text) and your membership status and history. Payments are processed by Stripe, which receives your card and billing details directly; we do not see or store your full card details. We use your approximate location (worked out from your IP address) only to show prices in your local currency. We email you about your account and membership, such as a welcome message and password resets, sent through Microsoft 365. Stripe emails your payment receipts.
If you ask for our free book each week, we keep your email address, when and where on the site you signed up, the wording you agreed to, your IP address at the time and your approximate country (from the IP address). We use this only to send you the weekly free book and news about new books. We first send one email asking you to confirm; nothing else is sent unless you confirm. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and after you unsubscribe we keep only a record that you did, so we don't email you again. To have your address deleted completely, email info@my-book-hub.com. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
Members can record themselves reading a book. We keep each recording, the name you choose to show with it (for example "Granny"), and who you have shared it with. Recordings are private: only you and the people you invite by email or share link can play them, and only while signed in. They are stored on our own server, not with third parties, and are not used for anything else, including training or advertising. You can delete a recording at any time in Family voices, or stop sharing it. If your membership ends, your recordings are removed 12 months later, unless you or someone you shared them with has chosen "Keep forever", in which case they are kept until whoever locked them unlocks them. Please only record your own voice, and only invite people you know.
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how the site is used - which pages are visited, roughly where from, and on what device. We also use cookies and browser local storage for basic site functionality, such as remembering your reading progress and preferences on this device.
My Book Hub is, or will be, partly funded by advertising through Google AdSense. Once ads are active, Google and its advertising partners may use cookies to show ads and measure their performance, which may include personalised advertising based on your browsing activity. You can review and adjust your ad settings at Google Ad Settings and myadchoices.com. Where required by law (for example under the GDPR in the UK/EU), a consent prompt is shown before non-essential cookies are set.
My Book Hub's books are written for children, but the platform itself does not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.
Reading and browsing does not require any personal information. Accounts (needed only to create or publish a book) require the account holder to be 18 or over, or to have verifiable parental consent. If we become aware that a child has provided personal information to us without appropriate consent, we will delete it. A parent or guardian who believes their child has provided us with personal information can contact us using the details in section 9 to have it removed.
We use the information described above to operate and improve the platform, process purchases, respond to messages, keep accounts secure, and (once approved) serve relevant advertising. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information we hold, including hashed passwords and restricted access to uploaded content. We keep account and purchase information for as long as the account is active and as needed to meet legal and accounting obligations.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or request deletion of your personal information, or to object to certain uses of it. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. If you are in the UK or EU, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
We may update this policy from time to time; the date at the top shows when it last changed. Material changes will be notified to registered users by email.
