How our educational books are made

Where the learning comes from, and how each book is checked before your child reads it

Every book marked Educational on My Book Hub teaches one specific learning goal, and that goal comes from a real, published early-years or school curriculum, not from guesswork. This page names exactly which curricula we use for each age, and explains how a book gets from a curriculum topic to the page.

The curricula we use, by age

Ages 1 to 3

Early development milestones

There is no formal school curriculum at this age, so these books follow the developmental milestones published by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), and the birth-to-three domains of the US Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework.

Topics include colours, shapes, animal sounds, big and small, the numbers one to three, body parts, simple feelings, textures and first actions.

Ages 3 to 6

UK Early Years Foundation Stage and US Head Start preschool

The Early Learning Goals of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), the statutory framework for early years in England set by the Department for Education, together with the preschool domains of the US Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework (ELOF).

Topics include counting 1 to 10, the alphabet, shapes, opposites, days of the week, months and seasons, coins, telling the time, measuring, patterns, growing things, people who help us, my body and healthy eating.

Ages 6 to 9

National Curriculum for England, Key Stage 1 and lower Key Stage 2

The science programmes of study for Key Stage 1 (ages 5 to 7) and lower Key Stage 2 (ages 7 to 9), plus early geography skills.

Topics include the water cycle, animal habitats, how plants grow, the five senses, weather and seasons, everyday materials, light and dark, pushes and pulls, food chains, rocks and soil, the skeleton and muscles, recycling and map skills.

Ages 9 to 12

National Curriculum for England, upper Key Stage 2

Upper Key Stage 2 science, history and geography, with a few everyday-life topics such as money and how communities make decisions.

Topics include human body systems, real explorers, the solar system, ancient civilisations, states of matter, electricity, sound and light, day and night, world geography, rivers and mountains, famous scientists, money and saving, and democracy basics.

Counting, letters, shapes, plants, animals, weather and the human body are taught in nurseries, preschools and primary and elementary classrooms almost everywhere, so the books work just as well for children outside the UK and US.

How a book goes from curriculum to page

  1. It starts with the curriculum. Each educational book is tied to one topic from the list for its age group and one learning goal written from that curriculum, for example "Understands the water cycle: evaporation, condensation, precipitation, collection".
  2. The story is drafted with AI writing tools, under strict rules. The AI is given the learning goal and the guidance for that age's curriculum, and told: no made-up facts, dates, numbers or names; sequences like counting, the alphabet or the days of the week go one item per page, in the right order; and the facts that matter must be in the words on the page.
  3. The pictures are made with AI illustration tools. AI pictures can't be trusted to show exactly five apples or a clearly readable letter, so anything a child needs to count or read is always written in the text as well, never left to the picture alone.
  4. A person checks every page before it's published. We check the reading level and pacing for the age, the facts against the curriculum learning goal, and that the characters look the same from the first page to the last. Nothing goes on the store straight from the AI.
  5. We fix anything you spot. If you find a mistake in an educational book, email info@my-book-hub.com and we will correct it.
