A peek inside
Pearl the little pink seahorse hid behind soft green seaweed. Her golden fins shook just a tiny bit. Today was her first day at Seashell School under big blue waves that sparkled all around the giant shell. Pearl felt very small and very quiet. She wished she could stay hidden forever.
Pearl peeked out with one eye. The school looked bright and cheerful inside the giant seashell where colorful fish swam in happy circles. Soft golden light glowed on the walls. Pearl saw other little sea creatures laughing together. Her heart beat fast like a tiny drum.
A kind octopus swam over with a gentle smile. His name was Bubbles the teacher and he had soft purple arms and kind eyes. Welcome to Seashell School, little one, he said softly. Pearl blushed pinker than ever. She could not say a single word back.
All the sea friends gathered in a cozy circle. Bubbles asked everyone to share their names. One by one the fish spoke up with giggles. Pearl stayed very still behind a coral chair and wanted to hide again. Speaking felt much too hard today.
Bubbles taught them how waves make music. He waved his tentacles like a conductor while the fish hummed soft watery songs. Pearl listened with wide shiny eyes. She loved the gentle sounds. But she still did not open her mouth to join.
Bubbles asked a simple question about shells. Who knows why shells are so pretty? Pearl knew the answer deep inside and her fins trembled like little leaves. She wanted to try so much. But her voice felt stuck like sticky seaweed.
Pearl took one tiny brave breath. She whispered her answer so very softly. Shells shine because the sun kisses them gently. Everyone turned to look right at her. Pearl felt hot and shy all over her scales, then kind Bubbles clapped his tentacles with happy joy.
