A peek inside
Elias Quill pushed open the heavy museum doors with ink-stained fingers, his messy dark hair falling into his eyes. Beside him stood Sable Thorne in her faded velvet coat, sharp eyes scanning the marble halls that seemed to stretch forever. Quiet Milo Raventide clutched his satchel full of antique keys, pale face thoughtful. They had come seeking a rare exhibit on forgotten maps, but something felt wrong from the first step. Echoes bounced strangely off the walls. Paintings shifted when no one watched. A cold breeze carried whispers of laughter from long ago. "This place is bigger than the map showed," Elias whispered. Sable nodded. "And emptier too. Where is everyone?" Milo jangled a key softly. Suddenly a door slammed shut behind them with a final boom. They were alone in the endless museum of lost memories.
The marble floor glowed under their feet as living exhibits began to form from mist. A carousel of wooden horses spun slowly, each horse wearing a face from someone's childhood. Elias stepped closer, recognizing the faded paint of a ride he once loved but could barely remember. "Is that mine?" he asked, voice trembling with wonder and fear. Sable pulled him back by the sleeve of his shirt. Her own coat fluttered as a shadow of a younger girl in velvet raced past, laughing. Milo opened his satchel and selected a brass key that hummed. "The museum is waking our forgotten days," he said quietly. "If we stay too long, they might keep us." The air thickened with the scent of old books and candy. Golden riddles waited on the walls to be solved before the pasts could claim them.
