A peek inside
Theo loved exploring the quiet town hall after reading club. Dust danced in the golden afternoon light as he wandered past old chairs and faded banners. In the far corner sat a forgotten piano covered with a soft cloth. Curious, Theo lifted the cloth and peered inside. Tiny letters shimmered on the wooden frame like secret stars. When he touched a silver key, the world spun gently around him. His shoes shrank. His hands shrank. Soon Theo stood no taller than a paperclip. Wide-eyed and amazed, he whispered, "What is this place?" The piano interior glowed with soft lantern light and the scent of old paper.
Theo stepped carefully onto a polished wooden ledge that felt like a wide road. Little bridges of ribbon crossed gaps between the piano strings. Far below, tiny houses made from folded book pages nestled among the hammers. Storybook characters bustled about with cheerful voices. A knight polished a cardboard shield. A baker carried a tray of crumb cakes no bigger than peas. Theo waved, and a girl in a blue cape hurried over. "Welcome, traveler! I am Lila from the Whispering Woods tale. You must be careful. Something strange is changing our stories tonight." Theo felt a flutter of excitement and wonder mix inside him.
