A peek inside
Welcome to the busy recycling centre! Rita waves hello with a big smile. Her curly hair bounces as she walks in bright overalls. Today she will show you the journey of one clear plastic bottle. That bottle once held water or juice. Now it begins a new adventure. Rita says recycling means we use old things to make new things. Plastic bottles do not vanish when we toss them away. They can float in rivers or sit in rubbish tips for a very long time. Living things need clean homes. When we recycle bottles, we keep plastic out of those homes. Rita claps her hands. Are you ready to follow the bottle step by step? The tour starts right now at the collection bay.
First stop is the big collection truck. Rita points to piles of empty plastic bottles. People put bottles in special bins at home and school. Workers empty those bins into trucks that drive to the centre. Our bottle rides with hundreds of friends. Rita explains that gathering bottles in one place is the first real step. Without collection, bottles stay scattered and can blow into parks or streams. Fish, birds, and small mammals need safe places to live and find food. Plastic litter can block nests or get tangled around legs and wings. By bringing bottles here, we start to protect those habitats. Rita checks a list and smiles. The bottles are ready for the next job inside the building.
