A peek inside
On a grey and gentle morning beside the school pond, rain tapped softly on the surface of the water. Mia and her class stood under colourful umbrellas with observation sheets and bright arrows ready in their hands. Right there on the pond, a cheerful blue water drop named Droplet bobbed and blinked his big curious eyes. He wriggled his tiny arms with excitement. Hello! he called in a splashy voice. Today you will follow me on a big adventure. The children leaned closer. Their teacher smiled and said the water cycle never really stops. Droplet felt proud to show them how water moves from the pond up into the air, into clouds, and down again as rain in one continuous loop they could track together all day long.
The pond water felt cool and still around Droplet as he floated near the reeds. Tiny ripples danced when a duck paddled past. Mia pointed her coloured arrow at the surface and wrote notes on her sheet. This is where our journey starts, the teacher explained. Water in the pond is liquid. It can splash and flow. Droplet stretched his tiny arms and spun slowly so everyone could see him clearly. He loved being part of the pond, but he also felt a warm tickle from the sun peeping through the clouds. Something exciting is about to happen, he whispered. The children watched carefully. Observation sheets flapped in the breeze. They drew the pond and labelled the liquid water. Droplet knew the continuous cycle began right here, waiting for heat to help him rise later as invisible vapour into the wide sky.
