A peek inside
Ivy bounced on her toes outside the house. Her bright red coat matched the shiny double-decker bus waiting at the stop. Dad Theo adjusted his glasses and wrapped his striped scarf tighter. Ready for our harbour adventure, Ivy? he asked with a cheerful grin. Ivy's bouncy curls danced as she nodded. They climbed the stairs to the top deck. From high up, the city looked like a toy town. Ivy pressed her nose to the window. Today they would ride the bus, then a ferry, to visit Auntie. She could hardly wait to spot seals and count colourful lorries. The engine hummed and the big red bus rolled forward into the morning light.
The red bus rumbled along the busy street. Ivy waved at people below. Dad Theo pointed out shop signs and tall buildings. Look at that blue lorry! Ivy shouted. Soon they joined the motorway. Lorries of every colour rolled past. Ivy started counting. One yellow, two green, three orange. Dad Theo helped her keep track in a little notebook. A silver lorry zoomed by with a loud whoosh. Ivy giggled and marked number four. The top deck gave them the best view of all. Cars looked tiny from up here. Ivy felt excited. Their adventure was just beginning, and the sparkling harbour waited somewhere ahead after the bus ride finished.
