A peek inside
Teddy stood at the gate of a quiet garden he had never explored before. Bright sunlight warmed his sun hat as he peered inside. "I wonder what secrets hide here," he whispered. He decided to use his five senses—sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch—to discover everything. His bright eyes sparkled with curiosity as he stepped forward.
Teddy opened his eyes wide and looked carefully around the garden path. His eyes are the body parts that help him see colours, shapes, and light. He spotted purple flowers climbing a stone wall and green leaves shimmering overhead. "My eyes show me so many beautiful things," Teddy said happily. Sight is the sense that lets us notice the world with our eyes.
Teddy stood still and listened. Soft birdsong floated through the air, and a gentle breeze rustled the tall grass. His ears are the body parts that collect these sounds and send them to his brain. "I can hear the garden singing," he said with a smile. Hearing is the sense that helps us understand sounds using our ears.
Teddy breathed in deeply near a bed of roses. A sweet perfume filled the air and made him grin. His nose is the body part that smells scents floating on the breeze. "Roses smell wonderful," Teddy declared, leaning closer. Smell is the sense that lets us notice odours with our noses, helping us enjoy flowers and find food.
Beside a vegetable patch, Teddy found a ripe strawberry the gardener had left for visitors. He took a careful bite and tasted sweet juice. His tongue is the body part covered with tiny taste buds that detect flavours. "This strawberry tastes delicious!" he laughed, closing his eyes. Taste is the sense that helps us enjoy food using our tongues.
Teddy reached out and stroked the rough bark of an old oak tree. He also felt cool, smooth pebbles beside a small pond. His skin, especially on his hands and fingers, is the body part that feels texture, temperature, and pressure. "Everything feels different," he whispered in wonder. Touch is the sense that lets us explore the world through our skin.
Deeper in the garden, Teddy noticed a wooden door almost hidden by vines. He used his eyes to spot the latch, his ears to hear a soft creak, and his nose to smell damp earth. His fingers touched cool metal as he gently pushed. "Something special waits inside," Teddy thought. All five senses were working together to guide him.
