A peek inside
Mia stood on the hilltop weather station with her bright yellow raincoat shining in the morning light. She lifted her binoculars and smiled. Today she was Cloud Detective Mia, and her job was to watch the sky. Different clouds bring different weather, and she wanted to learn every clue. "Hello, sky," she said. "What will you show me today?" The wind tugged gently at her hair. Below the hill, fields stretched out green and wide. Mia opened her weather notebook. She would draw each cloud and write what weather it linked to. Sunshine, rain, and wind all left signs in the clouds. Her adventure was about to begin.
Clouds are made of tiny water droplets or ice crystals floating high in the air. Mia knew that. When the sun warms water on the ground, some water rises as invisible vapour. High up, it cools and forms clouds. Different shapes of clouds mean different weather is on the way. Mia peered through her binoculars. "I will name each type," she whispered. "Then I will match it to sunshine, rain, or wind." A soft breeze brushed her face. She felt excited and ready. Learning the sky's secrets would help her predict the day. She wrote at the top of her page: Clouds and Weather Clues.
