A peek inside
High above Saturn’s honey-pale rings, the orbital greenhouse spun like a slow green bracelet of glass and light. Inside its weightless gardens, Anther drifted with pollen-dusted curls floating around a wide-eyed face full of questions. Vines curled in lazy spirals, and seed pods chimed softly whenever someone brushed past. Anther was the seed-keeper’s child, born among floating orchards, yet still felt like a wanderer chasing colors no one else seemed to notice. Today the air smelled of wet earth and distant stars, and something shimmering waited just beyond the next fern curtain. Curiosity tugged harder than any tether ever could.
Rhea moved through the corridors in verdant float-robes that billowed like living leaves, her hands gentle on every resting bud. She was the seed-keeper, patient keeper of the ancient vaults that sighed open only in deepest quiet. “The storms come when the vaults breathe, little root,” she told Anther, smiling as curls danced around her child’s face. Anther listened, heart thumping with half-understood wonder, already scanning the misty distance for glitter. Belonging felt soft here, yet incomplete, like a song missing its brightest note. Rhea’s calm presence steadied the air, but Anther’s feet—or rather the gentle push of bare toes—already yearned toward the unknown shimmer.
