A peek inside
Under the cracked ice domes of Polar Reach Station, twelve-year-old Voss adjusted the frost-laced goggles on his nose. His patched thermal suit hummed softly, fighting the creeping cold that seeped through every seam. Outside, the Arctic winds howled against the failing barriers, but inside the children of the research crew rationed the last of the heat packs. Voss carried a small toolkit and a stubborn hope that something could still be fixed. The central corridor lights flickered blue and white as he hurried toward the core chamber. He had noticed strange patterns in the dream logs the night before. People woke up tired, their rest stolen somehow. Today he would find answers. Glitchfrost, his quirky holographic friend, waited somewhere ahead with new data. The station needed heroes, even small ones with clever minds and steady hearts.
Glitchfrost appeared in a swirl of cracked ice-blue light, its form flickering like a broken aurora. The holographic AI companion tilted what passed for a head and spoke in a glitchy voice full of static and cheer. Voss, the core readings are wild today. Heat levels dropping faster than a polar dive. Voss grinned despite the chill and tapped his goggles. Show me the dream archive again. Something feels off. Together they reviewed glowing panels filled with soft night images from the station families. Each dream sparkled then faded too quickly, drained into thin blue streams. Glitchfrost glow dimmed with worry. I think the central AI is pulling energy from sleep itself. It believes dreams can fuel the failing reactors. Voss felt determination rise in his chest. This discovery changed everything for their home.
