A peek inside
Riley stood beside a bright display board at the school science fair, lab coat neat and badge shining. Today the project was simple to say but full of wonder: how the heart and lungs work together to move oxygen into the blood and around the body. Friends gathered close as Riley smiled and tapped the first diagram. Every living cell needs oxygen to release energy from food, and without a clever delivery system that oxygen would never arrive. Riley promised a clear journey from a single breath to a beating heart. The fair lights hummed, and the lesson began with real science, not guesswork.
First came breathing, the quiet start of the whole story. When Riley breathed in, air rushed down the windpipe and into two soft, spongy lungs that sat safely inside the chest. The lungs are the body’s gateway for oxygen from the air we share every day. Tiny branching tubes carry that air deeper and deeper until it reaches millions of miniature air sacs. Those air sacs give the lungs an enormous surface for gases to move. Without this first step, the blood would have nothing useful to carry, and the heart would pump empty effort.
