A peek inside
Sam the Senses Scout pulled on his bright yellow scarf and checked his backpack. Today he would explore the busy high street near his home. "My five senses will help me learn about the world," he said with a smile. His big round glasses sat snugly on his nose. Eyes, ears, nose, hands and tongue all work together to gather information. Sam felt curious and ready. He stepped onto the pavement and looked around. Shop signs glowed. People hurried past. Cars waited at lights. "I wonder what I will discover first," Sam thought. He knew that noticing things carefully would make this walk special. Every sense had a job to do, and Sam wanted to try them all.
Sam used his eyes first. Eyes help us see light, colours, shapes and movement. On the high street, Sam spotted a red bus turning the corner. He saw square windows on shops and round wheels on bicycles. A blue awning flapped above a cafe. Yellow bananas sat in a fruit stall. "Look at all those bright colours!" Sam said. His eyes gathered information about size and distance too. Tall lamp posts rose above short benches. A shopkeeper waved from a doorway. Sam noticed a green traffic light change to amber. Seeing helped him stay safe and find interesting places. Without his eyes, the high street would look completely different. He noted that eyes collect pictures of the world around us.
