Jasper bounced on his toes as Mum opened the car door. Inside a soft carrier sat a wriggly golden ball of fur. The puppy had floppy ears and bright curious eyes. 'His name is Max,' Mum said with a warm smile. She wore her favourite apron and still had gardening gloves tucked in her pocket. Jasper carefully lifted the carrier. Max gave a tiny yap and wriggled even more. Together they walked up the path to their cosy suburban home. The sunny garden waited beside the house. Jasper's heart felt full of excitement. 'Welcome home, Max,' he whispered. Mum unlocked the front door. Soft light spilled into the hallway. Max poked his nose through the carrier bars and sniffed the new smells. This was the start of a big adventure for all of them.
Inside the cosy house Max tumbled out of the carrier onto the soft rug. His golden paws slipped a little as he tried to stand. Jasper laughed and dropped to his knees. 'You are so cheeky already,' he said. Mum closed the door and hung up her gardening gloves. Max sniffed the table legs, the sofa cushions, and Jasper's stripy t-shirt. His floppy ears bounced with every quick step. The puppy discovered a forgotten sock under a chair and grabbed it with tiny teeth. 'Oh no, Max,' Jasper cried gently, reaching out. Mum smiled and brought a proper chew toy from a shopping bag. 'We must show him what he can bite,' she explained. Max dropped the sock and pounced on the toy instead. His tail wagged so hard his whole body wriggled with joy.
