A peek inside
On a bright morning, Tess paddled in the rockpool wearing her yellow wellies. Sunlight poured from the sky and danced on the wet stones. A small hermit crab scuttled near her boot. "I'm Pebble," he said from his spiral shell. Tess smiled. "The sun is making everything glow," she said. Pebble nodded. "The sun is our light source today."
Tess held up her hand and watched the sunlight. "Does light bend around things?" she asked. Pebble shook his shell. "Light travels in straight lines," he told her. "It cannot curve by itself." Tess peered at a straight shaft of sun between two rocks. The bright beam cut cleanly across the pool without bending at all.
